Driver charged with DUI by Massachusetts State Police

8/30/2013

State police allege that a two-car accident was caused by a drunk driver. The accident took place at approximately 5:45 p.m., during rush hour, on the Massachusetts Turnpike in the eastbound lane close to the East Mountain Road underpass on Aug. 20.

According to Massachusetts State Police, the motor vehicle accident caused traffic delays for around one hour and injured one person. The condition of the injured person is not known. The driver who allegedly caused the accident has been charged with OUI.

When a person is injured in a car accident, his or her life may be permanently altered. If the injuries are severe, the person may be hospitalized for days, weeks or even months. After the initial hospitalization, the injured person might be moved to a rehabilitation facility or a nursing home. During all this time, medical and personal bills may accumulate.

An experienced Massachusetts personal injury attorney might be able to recover fair compensation for someone who has been injured. In some cases, insurance carriers try to offer a minimal settlement that will not cover all accident-related expenses. An attorney may have the resources, knowledge and experience to negotiate with an insurance company for the maximum possible settlement amount.

If the insurance company refuses to pay a fair settlement, the attorney might request a jury trial in a civil court. In preparation, the attorney may collect police reports, additional evidence and expert testimony. In court, the attorney may present an argument on behalf of the plaintiff. Expert witnesses may provide testimony to support the case. If the evidence is compelling, the jury might find in favor of the injured person and award a large settlement.
