Allstate releases results of safest cities survey

9/4/2013

The Allstate Corporation, which insures approximately 10 percent of the nation’s motorists, conducted a survey over a two-year period to find out which part of America has the best drivers. The company looked at accident claims in 200 of the country’s largest cities in the years 2011 and 2012. Massachusetts residents may find the results of the survey, released in the Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report, interesting.

The survey found that the drivers least likely to be involved in an accident reside in Fort Collins, Colorado. On average, they are involved in a car accident once every 13.9 years. On the other hand, at the rate of one every 4.8 years, drivers in Washington, D.C., are most likely to be part of an automobile accident.

Allstate found that it is safer to live in a smaller city. Almost all of the 20 cities with the best accident rates have populations of less than 500,000. In contrast, larger cities had worse accident rates. For example, Miami, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Newark were all in the bottom 20 cities. Chicago and Houston residents have an average one crash every eight years, and New Yorkers report an auto accident once every 7.3 years.

Residents of Massachusetts all may be potential motor vehicle accident victims. An attorney skilled in personal injury cases may be able to help when a person incurs medical costs due to a car accident injury. Sometimes these injuries may prevent a person from returning to work. An attorney may be able to help the injured person secure funding for living costs and missed wages from any reduced work hours.
